Home Remedies for Dandruff

Home Remedy 1- Massage the scalp with mixture of almond and olive oil for five minutes, leave it for 30 minutes and then rinse off to get the dandruff free hairs.

Home Remedy 2- Soak a handful of fenugreek or methi seeds in some water overnight. Next day, grind the seeds to a paste. Apply this on your scalp and leave to rest for a couple of hours. Rinse your hair with shikakai or ritha.(Botanical Name: Acacia Concinna)

Home Remedy 3- Yogurt reduces the intensity of scaling. Mix 2 teaspoon of black pepper powder in a cup of curd and blend it thoroughly. Then rub this mixture into dandruff affected scalp and after an hour, wash it with a mild shampoo.

Home Remedy 4-You can get rid of dandruff with the consistence use of olive oil. Olive oil is natural clarifying and moisturizing agent. It is one of the most admired home remedies for dandruff. A lukewarm oil treatment of olive oil can help you to treat your dandruff. Don’t make the olive oil too hot. Apply the olive oil to the problem scalp in circular motions before going to bed. Wash out your hair with a mild shampoo in the morning.

Home Remedy 5- Mix 6 spoonfuls water, a spoonful of lemon juice, half a teaspoon of salt and two spoonfuls of pure vinegar. Apply on the scalp with cotton wool. After shampooing, rinse again with vinegar water. Continue this for three months.

Home Remedy 6- Most important is to take balanced diet on a regular basis that should include vegetables, grams, cereals, fruits, etc. Drink lots of water during the day.

When the roots of your hair stop producing melanin, your hair loses color and turns grey or white. Since hair consists of dead cells, once grey or white hair is formed it cannot be changed. The age at which a person’s hair becomes white depends on hereditary factors, but diet, lifestyle and stress can also cause premature greying.
Most people would start to grow significant strands of white hair during their 30s and 40s. It embarrasses them but they can no longer ignore the problem. Many people start to dye their hair but that is not a lasting solution. Although there is no harm in getting your hair dyed, but there is nothing like naturally flawless black hair.
There is no way to reverse natural greying of hair as it depends on genetic factors, but you can prevent premature greying (hair becoming white) by following the tips given below:

#Walk early morning on wet grass bare foot.
#Use of Avla – Make a paste of Avla in water and apply to the hair. Let it rest for 1 to 2 hours and then rinse. Distinctly thickened and blackened texture of the hair would be visible after rinsing. You can also use Avla hair oil for massaging your hair.
#Fresh juices – Have fresh vegetables or their juices. The juices include carrot, lettuce, alfalfa and the like. These provide energy and vitality to your body while the drinks such as refined sugars, soft drinks, white flours and pastries.
#Indian gooseberry – Have as much of this fruit as possible. It is known to be a tonic for preventing white hair. You can also make a lotion with Indian gooseberry, lemon slices and coconut oil. Massage your scalp thrice a week and leave for an hour.
#Bhringraj oil - Use this oil to massage your hair. Consult with an Ayurvedic practitioner to know more about anti-pitta herbs as they help in preventing greying of hair.
#Fruit juices and honey – Apart from Avla, honey, brahmi, Shankhpushpi, Vacha and brahmi ghrutam are known Ayurvedic treatments for preventing white hairs.
#Black tea -Take black tea (without milk and sugar) and massage it on the roots of the hair. Leave it for 1 hour and then wash it.
#Shun unhealthy habits – Abuse of alcohol, prescription drugs and smoking have been linked to inhibition in hair growth.

#Try a home remedy - A home remedy for darkening gray hair involves making a weekly poultice. It is made from henna powder, coffee, yogurt, fenugreek, mint juice and basil juice. You need to apply for 3 hours before rinsing with a shampoo.
#Curry leaves – Boil curry leaves in coconut oil and apply the mixture on your hair. It is a good treatment to prevent formation of white hairs.
#Coconut oil with lemon – A traditional method of preventing white hair formation is mixing coconut with lemon or almond oil and massaging of scalp.
#Eat fish and other seafood (they contain iodine) which is required for melanin production.
#Relax -Excess stress can exacerbate premature gray and white hair. Avoid taking on more than you can handle. Employ breathing exercises and meditation techniques to promote feelings of relaxation and calm in your life.
#Take Vitamin B12 supplements.

So what if a bad hair day strikes when you're short of time - or cash- and can't make a quick trip to the salon?
Fear not, because some of Britain's top hair experts have revealed their unusual but clever home remedies for lack-lustre locks.
Whether it's a flat barnet, dull colour or even pesky greys, try these nifty fixes with ingredients that can be found in your kitchen, make-up bag or even home office!
For a voluminous mane, hairstylist Luke Hersheson says the answer can be found in your fridge.
"Mist roots with a dark ale, beer or even champagne. The yeast adds volume while the alcohol sets it in place," he told the July issue of Elle UK.
If you fancy a new hue or want to try this season's trend for pastel shades, why not try a natural wash-out version before you make the change permanent?
"Add a couple of drops of food colouring to your conditioner and apply wherever you want it - it can be an all over tint or just on the ends. The less you use, the more pastel the colour. Lemon juice removes it," revealed hair stylist Duffy.
To cover up greys, Wella Professionals' creative director for colour, Josh Wood, recommended an unusal yet effective solution.
"Blend grey hairs into dark hair by using a fat-nibbed felt tip in a matching shade," he said.
And if you ever run out of hair wash, you can knock up a DIY dry shampoo with the contents of your bathroom cabinet.
"Crush up an eyeshadow that matches your hair, mix it with talcum powder and dust through [your hair] to banish grease and add oomph," Shu Uemura Art of Hair UK ambassador Stephen Low advised.

CAUSES OF HAIR LOSS:

- Taking Medicines such as blood thinners (also called anticoagulants), medicines used for gout, high blood pressure or heart problems, vitamin A (if too much is taken), birth control pills and antidepressants.
- Hairstyles that puts too much tension on your hair like Pigtails, ponytails (secured by elastic bands), cornrows or winding too tightly onto rollers (especially heated rollers)
- Chemicals used in permanents (also called "perms") may cause inflammation (swelling) of the hair follicle, which can result in scarring and hair loss.
- Scalp conditions such as Fungal infections or Psoriasis

PREVENTION OF HAIR LOSS:
Hair loss in women and men can be prevented or stopped if you take care of your hair and scalp.

- Do not wash your hair with too much hot water.
- If you use any shampoo, use only an ORGANIC shampoo or conditioner.
- Do not comb the hair backwards. Use a good quality brush or comb. Avoid excessive brushing.
- Massage the scalp vigorously for 10 to 15 minutes (until you start to feel hot there) after bathing it with water. This stimulates the blood circulation and strengthens the hair follicles in the scalp and prevent hair loss.
- Coconut oil and castor are very good for hair.
- Boil dry pieces of amla (Indian goose berry) in coconut oil and apply on hair for hair loss prevention.

WHAT/WHAT NOT TO EAT FOR HAIR LOSS:
1. Protein Grows Hair
Because the hair is made of protein, a protein deficiency can cause hair loss. Add protein to the diet by including chick peas, soy beans, almonds, nuts, pumpkin seeds. (Hey, You may eat foods which are not only from animal products.)
2. Vitamin C is Needed for Healthy Hair
Vitamin C is also a component of healthy hair. Citrus fruits, such as oranges and lemons, are especially high in vitamin C, as are green peppers. Suggested dosage is 1,000 to 3,000 mg a day.
3. B Vitamins Increase Hair Growth
Biotin and the complex B vitamins are needed to grow hair. B3 helps increase circulation to the scalp, thereby encouraging hair growth. It is best to take a supplement that includes all of the B vitamins, called a B complex supplement, as the nutrients work synergistically.
Suggestions: legumes, eggs, mushrooms, yeast, nuts and salmon.
4. Iron Reduces Hair Loss
The mineral iron helps increase circulation in the scalp as well, which then fuels hair growth. Foods that are high in iron include liver, apricots and raisins.
5. Drink Water to Grow Hair
The hair shaft is comprised of one quarter water. Drink at least 10 cups of water a day to stay hydrated and grow healthy hair.

1. Coconut Milk
Applying coconut milk to the scalp is a popular folk remedy for hair growth, particularly in countries where people consume and use a large amount of coconut milk in cooking, such as Thailand and the Philippines. To use coconut milk on the scalp, apply approximately one-half cup to the scalp and wrap your head in a towel. Leave the coconut milk in your hair for about 30 minutes before shampooing your hair with a gentle shampoo to remove the coconut milk.
2. Rosemary Essential Oil
Rosemary essential oil is a common Ayurvedic remedy that is applied to the scalp for hair loss, according to Melanie A. Sachs, author of "Ayurvedic Beauty Care." To use rosemary essential oil, mix three teaspoons with six teaspoons of a carrier oil such as olive oil, vitamin E oil or avocado oil. Apply the mixture to the scalp and cover your hair with a towel. Leave the mixture on for 20 to 25 minutes before washing your hair with a gentle shampoo.
3. Black Pepper and Lime Juice
Black pepper and lime juice is a common folk remedy to help hair grow, and lime juice is regularly used in Ayurvedic medicine according to Melanie A. Sachs, author of "Ayurvedic Beauty Care." To apply black pepper and lime juice to the hair, blend two tablespoons whole black peppercorns with one-quarter cup of freshly squeezed or natural lime juice in a blender or food processor until the ingredients form a smooth, thin paste. Apply the paste to the scalp and wrap a towel around your head for 45 minutes before rinsing the hair with cool water and shampooing with gentle shampoo.
4. Honey
- Make a paste by mixing olive oil, 1 tablespoon of Manuka honey and 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon. Apply and massage on the scalp and leave it for 15-20 minutes. Wash off and repeat it for 3-4 times a week.
- Mix one tablespoon honey with one small glass of brandy or vodka and onion juice; rub mixture into the scalp every night, cover with a cap and shampoo in the morning.
- Combine 1/4 cup of onion juice with one tablespoon of raw honey, and then massage the scalp with the mixture every night.
- Massage into the scalp and hair honey with egg yolk. Leave for a 1/2 hour, then wash. This is a common natural cure for dull and dry hair.
5. Wheatgrass juice is one of the most effective remedies against hair fall. It is known to decrease the shedding tendency of hair within a few weeks of regular intake. Aloe vera juice has a similar effect. However, aloe gel can be applied to the scalp too. This is helpful for preventing hair loss due to irritated, dry or infected scalp. After massaging the head with aloe gel, wash the hair with lukewarm water. This can be done twice, every week.
